• Sales and use tax rate rises to 11 percent Oct. 1 (monrovianow.com) — Starting Oct. 1, Monrovia's sales and use tax jumps from 10.5% to 11%, raising the cost of nearly everything you buy in town. The increase stems from LA County's new Measure ER layered on top of earlier voter-approved local taxes and a higher state cap on local sales taxes.
   

• CHP report on death of Carlos Roberto Montoya Valdez available (monrovianow.com) — Monrovia residents can now read the California Highway Patrol's report on the 2025 death of day laborer Carlos Roberto Montoya Valdez, who was struck on the 210 Freeway after fleeing an ICE operation near Home Depot. Investigators concluded he caused the collision by running into fast-moving carpool traffic, and recommended no action against the driver while noting limits on access to federal footage.
