• Monterey County lifts all evacuations as Timber Fire reaches 90% containment (ksbw.com) — All evacuation orders and warnings for the Timber Fire in Monterey County have been lifted now that the blaze is 90% contained after burning more than 25,000 acres. Crews are focused on repair work, grading roads, and monitoring hotspots near Double Cone and along Highway 1, while the nearby Plaskett Fire is fully contained with all evacuations cleared.
   

• PG&E proposes $11.7 billion plan to bury power lines in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties (ksbw.com) — PG&E is proposing to bury 139 miles of power lines in Monterey County as part of a $11.7 billion statewide undergrounding plan aimed at slashing wildfire risk and outages. The 10-year proposal, still awaiting state review and CPUC approval, targets fire‑prone areas and follows past incidents like the Lonoak Fire, with officials touting big safety and reliability gains for local communities.
   

• Joint NPS-MCU Hackathon Advances AI Prototypes for Military Education (navy.mil) — In Monterey, the Naval Postgraduate School recently co-hosted a four-day hackathon that built AI tools to improve military education and training. The event drew Marines, other service members, researchers and industry experts, and the winning prototype will now be developed further at NPS as part of a thesis project, potentially shaping future curriculum and assessment tools across the services.
