73-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Murrieta: Police
Police said dense fog was present in the area during the time of the collision.
MURRIETA, CA — A 73-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle Sunday morning in Murrieta amid dense fog, police said.
Around 6:55 a.m., police responded to a traffic collision near Whitewood Road and Meadowlark Lane, according to the Murrieta Police Department.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle was traveling southbound on Whitewood Road when a pedestrian, who is believed to have been jogging, entered the roadway and was struck.
A 52-year-old woman was driving the vehicle and attempted to swerve to avoid the pedestrian. She immediately stopped after the collision to render aid, according to the Murrieta Police Department.
Police said dense fog was present in the area during the time of the collision.
The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he died.
The man was identified as Nabil Alsalek, of Murrieta, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner.
Police said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been contributing factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
