• Hit-and-run driver arrested for crash that injured Riverside County deputy in Murrieta (cbsnews.com) — A Riverside County sheriff's deputy was injured when a passing vehicle struck him during a traffic stop near Winchester Road and Murrieta Hot Springs Road, right here in Murrieta. The 68-year-old driver was arrested nearby on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury and may have been driving under the influence, with the case still under investigation and a court date set for October.
   

• Great Oak football catches Murrieta Mesa with late comeback (pressenterprise.com) — Fans at Murrieta Mesa High School saw a dramatic finish as visiting Great Oak rallied from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to edge Murrieta Mesa 37-34. Murrieta Mesa's offense shined behind quarterback Coleman Jones, but a late touchdown and successful extra point by Great Oak, followed by a game-ending safety, decided the closest game in the series' history.
   

• Wildomar man arrested on suspicion of killing his mother (pressenterprise.com) — A Wildomar man has been arrested more than a year after his 74-year-old mother's death, with investigators now suspecting murder and elder abuse. While the alleged crime occurred in Wildomar, the case moves into Murrieta as he's booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center and expected in court at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center, where residents may follow developments.
