Strange Noises Lead RivCo Family To Discover Someone Living Underneath Their House
First they heard an alarm clock sounding from somewhere in their rental home, then the strange power cords. Finally, they called the police.
HEMET, CA — What would you do if you found a squatter living under your home? That was the question the Matthews family of Hemet is now forced to answer.
Recently, a Hemet family investigating sounds of an alarm clock from somewhere inside their rental home discovered a large basement and evidence of someone squatting underneath.
KTLA reported the family's shock at not only the mystery cellar but also the evidence of someone living there. The street address of the home was not released.
"We found a tarp, a black tube that looked like it had drugs in it, and cleaning products," a family spokesperson told KTLA.
Pointing out the fan, and power cords, he added "They've been using my electricity!"
The knowledge a stranger was living underneath her home has left renter Charnita Matthews worried.
"I have four children and my husband travels," Matthews told the media. "I'm scared to be here alone."
Pro Management, the company in charge of this rental, told KTLA that a walk-through of the property before it was rented to the Matthews family showed no evidence that anyone was living there at that time.
Patch has reached out to the rental company, joining the Hemet Police and other media outlets in asking if this was a known situation.
