Prosecutors announced charges against Martinez and co-defendant Luis Fajardo Melgoza in June 2023, marking Napa County’s first murder prosecution of fentanyl suppliers in connection with a fentanyl-related death.
During a subsequent October hearing, Ortiz sentenced Melgoza, 23, of Santa Rosa, to 10 years in state prison under a plea agreement.
Melgoza pleaded no contest to drug charges that included selling fentanyl and cocaine to a minor, transporting fentanyl and cocaine for sale, and possessing fentanyl and cocaine for sale.
The court sentenced a third co-defendant, Erika Garcia Chavez, 26, of Santa Rosa, to two years of probation with terms and conditions and ordered her to serve 180 days in the Napa County Department of Corrections.
Chavez pleaded no contest to possessing a controlled substance for sale and conspiring to commit a crime under a plea agreement. She also admitted aggravating factors.
