Man Accused Of Shooting BB Gun At Neighbor Arrested After Vista Standoff

VISTA, CA — A man was arrested Tuesday after an hourslong standoff at a Vista apartment complex where authorities said he assaulted a neighbor with a BB gun and threatened deputies.

Deputies responded around 5 a.m. to the 400 block of North Santa Fe Avenue after a caller reported that Logan Hines, 64 fired a BB gun at him but missed, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The victim told deputies he took cover behind a wall and was afraid to return to his apartment.

Deputies said they were already familiar with Hines because of multiple recent disturbances. Sheriff's officials said he had broken a second-floor apartment window, thrown items into a shared courtyard, fired a BB gun at vehicles and repeatedly harassed neighbors.

When deputies tried to contact Hines, he threatened to shoot and stab anyone who entered his apartment, prompting the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail, or SWAT, to respond, according to the sheriff's office.

After about an hour of negotiations, Hines surrendered and was taken into custody. Hines and one deputy suffered minor injuries during the arrest, sheriff's officials said.

Investigators served a search warrant served at Hines' apartment and found methamphetamine and a meth pipe, a Taser, metal knuckles, a homemade spear, multiple knives and machetes, and black BB pistols, according to the sheriff's office.

Hines was treated at a hospital before being booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, criminal threats, and being a felon in possession of a stun gun and metal knuckles.
