Marine Recruit Dies After Medical Emergency During Camp Pendleton Fitness Evaluation

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A Marine Corps recruit died after suffering a medical emergency during a routine physical fitness evaluation at Camp Pendleton, officials announced Thursday.

The recruit, who was assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, was pronounced dead Wednesday at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, according to a news release from the depot. The medical emergency happened Saturday during the evaluation at the military base.

The recruit's identity will not be released until 24 hours after family members are notified, officials said.

The circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation, and officials are conducting a medical review. The Marine Corps said it is providing support and privacy to the recruit's family and no additional details are being released at this time.
