Disneyland Tests New AI-Powered 'Cars' Robots As Parking Lot Assistants

The autonomous robots were showcased by Walt Disney Imagineering during a technology event in Burbank.

ANAHEIM, CA — Disneyland park guests may soon be waved into the park's Pixar Pals parking garage by AI-powered "Cars" robots.

The new parking aides were showcased during the Disney Accelerator Demo Day event on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.

According to Disney, the robotic parking assistants were developed to look like Pixar characters from the 2006 "Cars" and 2008 "Wall-E" animated films.

The robots were shown during a 30-minute video detailing the creation of the assistants that was screened at the event.

"Imagine if a character from Cars or robots from Wall-E direct you where to park when you arrive," Disney Experiences Senior Vice President Gary Daniels said in the video. "The work we are doing now is a great way to see how the robots function and, as important, how people respond."
