Orange Smoke Plume Triggers Hazmat Response, Shelter-In-Place Orders In OC
Three people were exposed to some kind of possible hazardous substance at the commercial building near residential neighborhoods.
LA HABRA, CA — Three people were examined after being exposed to some kind of possible hazardous substance at a commercial building in La Habra today while nearby residents were told to shelter in place as crews investigated.
Crews were summoned around noon Tuesday to a one-story building with smoke visible in the 500 block of South Cypress Street, between Fourth Avenue and Park Industrial Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
"'Responding units mitigated the leak and the plume has dissipated,'' the department said.

County fire officials said crews and police remained on scene for about an hour to ensure the leak was contained and to monitor air quality.
No people were hospitalized. There were no active risks to nearby residents as of 2:20 p.m.

The building is not far from residences. Those living nearby were advised to shelter in place with doors and windows sealed as much as possible.
Fire crews confirmed that the commercial building houses a factory that manufactures industrial chemicals, with a visible plume of orange smoke rising from the roof.
