'Aircraft Emergency' Reported With Small Plane Down In RivCo: FD

MECCA, CA — A small aircraft went down in Mecca Saturday evening, according to officials.

CAL Fir and the Riverside County Fire Department reported an "aircraft emergency" on Avenue 68 and Lincoln Street in Mecca.

"The first arriving unit reported a small aircraft down with a solo occupant safely out of the aircraft reporting no injuries," fire officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that at 5:50 p.m., deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to an unnamed road off 68th Avenue, east of Lincoln Street in Mecca, regarding an air emergency.

Upon arrival, deputies located a plane that experienced an emergency landing and contacted the pilot, and sole occupant, who was uninjured, the FAA said.

There were no full road closures during the incident, the FAA said.

There was no reported damage, but the plane sustained moderate damage, the FAA said.

The investigation is ongoing, the FAA said.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
