Coroner IDs Woman Killed In Golf Center Parkway Pedestrian Crash

The identity of the 75-year-old woman who was struck and killed in Indio on the 4th of July was released.

INDIO, CA — The identity of a woman struck and killed by a vehicle in Riverside County was revealed by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Bureau, following notification of next of kin.

Estela Garza, 75, a resident of Bermuda Dunes, died at Desert Regional Center in Palm Springs after being struck at the intersection of Golf Center Parkway and Avenue 44 in Indio, the coroner's report revealed.

On Saturday, just after 11 p.m., emergency officials responded to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash, according to the Indio Police Department.

They found the woman, later known to be Garza, suffering from major injuries, and paramedics performed life-saving measures before transferring her to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the involved vehicle, a white Audi sedan, was traveling north on Golf Center Parkway when it struck the pedestrian, who had just stepped off the center median into the roadway.

The 50-year-old driver of the Audi, whose identity was not released, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the Indio Police Department.
