Man Accused Of Fatally Stabbing Stepfather In Riverside County Arrested: Sheriff

Authorities said the 76-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — A 36-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his 76-year-old stepfather in Rancho Mirage was arrested, authorities announced on Friday.

Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at 8:33 p.m. on Thursday in the 36000 block of Palm View Road. When they arrived, deputies found Carl Harry Smith suffering from apparent stab wounds, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The Riverside Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit assumed the investigation, and Joshua Jordan Kohain-King of Joshua Tree was identified as a suspect, authorities said.

Authorities did not share a motive or what led them to identify Kohain-King as the suspect.

Kohain-King was taken into custody without incident and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for murder, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities said the investigation is active and ongoing.
