Palm Desert DMV Office to Close Temporarily (ca.gov) — Palm Desert residents who use the local DMV should plan ahead, as the Technology Drive office will close for interior painting at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 18, and reopen Monday, September 28 at 8 a.m. During the closure, you can handle most DMV tasks online or visit nearby offices in Indio, Palm Springs, Hemet, or Twentynine Palms instead.
   

2. Riverside County Set to Approve $3.3 Million for Palm Desert Sheriff's Dispatch Expansion (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Palm Desert's sheriff's dispatch center on Gerald Ford Drive is slated for a $3.3 million funding boost, bringing the expansion's total cost to nearly $18 million. The project will add space for 911 operators and East County patrol teams, consolidating operations now split with a rented building. County supervisors are expected to give final budget approval today, affecting local emergency response.
   

3. Palm Desert 'Scaminar' to help seniors spot increasingly sophisticated scams (kesq.com) — Palm Desert residents, especially seniors, are invited to a free "Scaminar" on September 25 at the local Bank of America branch, focused on spotting increasingly sophisticated scams. Experts will explain common fraud tactics, including AI-driven schemes, and share practical steps to protect your money and personal information. The event is open to the public and aims to help Coachella Valley seniors stay safe.
   

4. Wife used flagpole to kill husband inside upscale gated community: Sheriff (lawandcrime.com) — Residents connected to the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station may be alarmed by a homicide case in which a 65-year-old woman is accused of killing her husband with a flagpole inside a gated community. Authorities detail a history of prior domestic-violence cases and protective orders, and prosecutors now seek to hold her without bail as the murder case proceeds.
   

5. Raju Mehta named Grand Marshal of 20th anniversary Paint El Paseo Pink (kesq.com) — Palm Desert's El Paseo will turn pink on Saturday, October 10, 2026, when thousands are expected for the 20th anniversary Paint El Paseo Pink cancer walk. Local jeweler Raju Mehta will serve as Grand Marshal, helping raise funds so Desert Cancer Foundation can support Coachella Valley residents who need help paying for cancer care.
