PALM DESERT, CA — International soccer, musical theater and desert nature programs are among the weekend activities planned in and around Palm Desert.

Here are five things to consider from Friday, July 17, through Sunday, July 19.

Little Learners Lounge

Palm Desert Library will host a Friday morning program for young children and their caregivers.

Saturday Soccer Watch Party

The Shops at Palm Desert will host an international championship soccer viewing event Saturday afternoon.

When: 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 18
Where: The Shops at Palm Desert, 72840 Highway 111
Cost: Free admission was indicated; food and purchases are separate.

“The Wizard Of Oz”

Palm Canyon Theatre will invite audiences to follow Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion down the Yellow Brick Road in its production of the classic musical.

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19
Where: Palm Canyon Theatre, Palm Springs
Cost: Ticketed

This event is in Palm Springs but is included as part of the broader Palm Desert and eastern Coachella Valley weekend roundup.

Star Party At The Monument

Astronomical Society of the Desert members will help visitors observe stars and planets through telescopes at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center.

Children must attend with a parent or guardian. The event may be canceled if skies are overcast.

When: 8 p.m. Saturday, July 18
Where: National Monument Visitor Center, 51500 Highway 74, Palm Desert
Cost: Free

Summer BioBlitz

Early risers can help document desert wildlife and plant species during a Summer BioBlitz at the national monument. Participants can use community-science tools to record what they encounter.

When: 5 a.m. Sunday, July 19
Where: Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, 51500 Highway 74, Palm Desert
Cost: Check with the organizer; the calendar did not display an admission charge.

A second soccer watch party is also scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at The Shops at Palm Desert.
