Palm Springs Police Raise $8,500 For Family Of Girl Who Died From Cancer
Proceeds from the fundraising efforts will go directly to the girl's family, police said.
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Three members of the Palm Springs Police Department helped raise $8,500 for the family of a 10-year-old girl who died of cancer by participating in a charity boxing event, police announced Monday.
Team Palm Springs represented the department at Battle of the Badges on Oct. 17 at Palm Desert Civic Center Park. The event ran from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., bringing participants together to raise money for a family in need, police said.
The officers fought in memory of Zyanna Garcia Soto, who died after battling cancer. Proceeds from Team Palm Springs' fundraising efforts will go directly to her family, police said.

"In loving memory of Zyanna Soto, we came together to show what happens when a community unites behind a purpose bigger than any one of us," the department said in a Facebook post Monday.
Police credited community members for helping the team reach its fundraising total, thanking those who donated, purchased T-shirts, attended the event and showed their support.
