Pavement Project On Highway 111 In Palm Springs To Start Oct. 16 (patch.com) — Drivers in Palm Springs should prepare for weekday lane closures on Highway 111 starting Oct. 16 as Caltrans launches a $3.2 million pavement resurfacing project between the 10 Freeway and just past Tramway Road. Work will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, with one lane open in each direction and CHP on site for safety, and is expected to wrap up by year's end, weather permitting.

Palm Springs announces next steps in city manager transition (kesq.com) — Palm Springs is preparing for City Manager Scott Stiles' November 1 retirement by launching a national search and inviting residents to weigh in through an online City Manager Community Survey. An interim manager will be appointed soon to keep priorities like infrastructure, housing, economic development, and public safety on track while a recruitment firm leads a four- to six-month hiring process.

Palm Springs takes next step toward new downtown fire station (kesq.com) — Palm Springs is moving ahead with a new state-of-the-art downtown fire station, starting with demolition of two former Well in the Desert buildings at the Town & Country Center this month. Once escrow closes on the $4 million property purchase, the city will hire a design and construction team, adding a modern public-safety hub for downtown while Well in the Desert plans its next location.

4. Palm Springs is reopening the world's largest rotating tramcar next week — carrying visitors 5,800 feet up the San Jacinto Mountains in just 10 minutes (secretlosangeles.com) — Palm Springs' Aerial Tramway is set to reopen next Monday, October 5, restoring the quick 10-minute ride from the desert floor up into the San Jacinto Mountains. After a month of maintenance and safety testing, locals and visitors can again enjoy cooler high-elevation hikes, snow in winter months, and extended winter operating hours from the Valley Station on Tram Way.
