Saxophonist, pianist, and composer Gary Meek brings a career-spanning program to Meyhouse, featuring music from his acclaimed recordings alongside new, yet-to-be-released compositions.
“Meek displays an original voice throughout, both as saxophonist and writer.” — DownBeat
A versatile voice in jazz, fusion, and Latin jazz, Meek has appeared on more than 150 recordings and performed with an extraordinary range of artists, including Dave Weckl, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Al Jarreau, Herb Alpert, Brian Bromberg, and Jeff Lorber. His extensive career has taken him around the world, from longtime collaborations with Airto Moreira and Flora Purim to international tours with Al Jarreau and Herb Alpert, as well as years of work with drummer Dave Weckl.
Meek’s own projects showcase his distinctive voice as both a composer and instrumentalist. His album Originals was recognized in DownBeat’s Best Albums of 2018, while his recording career has also crossed beyond jazz, including an appearance on Green Day’s Warning.
For this performance, Meek takes the stage on saxophone and piano, joined by Dan Robbins on bass, Adam Astrup on guitar, and Skylar Campbell on drums. The evening moves between music from different chapters of his career and his newest compositions—looking back at the work that shaped his sound while offering a glimpse of what comes next.
