City officials say the deal avoids risky arbitration, wraps up lingering construction issues, and is already prompting changes in how Palo Alto manages big capital projects going forward.
   

2. 'Never forget, be ready': Remembering 9/11, a quarter century later (paloaltoonline.com) — Palo Alto residents are invited to a multifaith 9/11 peace picnic tonight at King Plaza and can note a new City Council proclamation honoring the attacks' 25th anniversary. Local firefighters and regional leaders reflect on lessons from 9/11, ongoing health impacts on first responders, and new plans for a regional firefighting training center and memorial.
   

3. Top Nvidia researcher's family make bombshell intervention days before his cremation, claims he did not commit suicide (nypost.com subscription) — A 32-year-old Nvidia AI researcher was found unconscious in his Palo Alto home in July and died eight days later, with authorities ruling his death a suicide. His family strongly disputes that conclusion, has petitioned the state attorney general to halt his scheduled cremation, and is urging anyone with information to come forward while evidence can still be preserved.
   

4. Local photographers honored in Midpen's photo contest (mv-voice.com) — A Palo Alto photographer, Rebecca Richardson, earned top honors in Midpen's Plant Life category for her image from Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve, joining winners from Menlo Park and Woodside. The contest highlights how close-by preserves offer stunning night skies, sunrises, and quiet trails that local residents can explore and photograph throughout the year.
   

5. Bay Area's first 'living levee' opens to the public (mercurynews.com) — Palo Alto's Baylands just gained the Bay Area's first public 'living levee,' a planted slope designed to protect the shoreline from sea-level rise while improving habitat. City and county partners are using treated wastewater from Palo Alto's Regional Water Quality Control Plant to irrigate the new vegetation, tying the project to broader local flood, climate, and water-quality efforts affecting Palo Alto and East Palo Alto neighborhoods.
