📰 News we're reading
1. Activists flood Palo Alto City Hall to protest Flock cameras (paloaltoonline.com) — Palo Alto City Hall was packed with activists urging the City Council to drop Flock's license plate cameras and curb mass surveillance in town. Council members ordered a faster independent audit of the city's ALPR program and signaled they may change vendors or even end the Flock contract after reviewing data-sharing and privacy risks.

2. Palo Alto backs away from plan to let RVs remain in neighborhoods (paloaltoonline.com) — Palo Alto has shelved a plan that would have kept hundreds of RVs on designated neighborhood streets after strong pushback from south Palo Alto residents. Instead, the city will move ahead with a smaller RV parking permit pilot near the Palo Alto Airport and Stanford Research Park while reworking options that avoid residential areas and gathering more data on local RV dwellers.

3. Police arrest 3 teens suspected of assault in Mountain View (mv-voice.com) — Mountain View police say three East Palo Alto teenagers were arrested in Atherton and are suspected in a June assault that left a Turlock man injured outside IFES Society Hall. Officers later served search warrants at three East Palo Alto addresses as they added charges including assault likely to cause great bodily injury and, for one teen, criminal threats.

4. California Parents Sue School District For Mosque Field Trip (tippinsights.com) — Parents have filed a lawsuit against Palo Alto Unified over a 2025 Palo Alto High School field trip to a Santa Clara mosque, alleging the program promoted Islam and failed to stay religiously neutral. The complaint, brought largely by Jewish community members, argues students were pressured into religious activities and that parents lacked meaningful consent, raising big questions about how local schools handle faith-related curriculum experiences.
