📰 News we're reading

1. Altadena Arts Magnet students return to campus after parents battle with district over safety measures (pasadenastarnews.com) — Families in Pasadena Unified are seeing the impact of long-running safety debates as Altadena Arts Magnet students finally return to their fire-adjacent campus after more than a year at a temporary Pasadena school site. Parents pushed the district for extensive contamination testing and carpet removal, winning changes but also prompting some families to transfer to other PUSD schools or leave the district entirely.

2. One of the world's largest flea markets brings together 20,000 visitors and 2,500 vendors every month in Pasadena (secretlosangeles.com) — Pasadena's Rose Bowl Stadium turns into a massive flea market every second Sunday, drawing about 20,000 shoppers and 2,500 vendors with antiques, vintage fashion, furniture, and more. The piece breaks down hours, ticket prices, parking tips, and smart strategies so locals can beat the crowds, hunt for treasures, and navigate this long-running Pasadena tradition like a pro.

3. Rent Board Moves Toward Asking City Council to Set an Indoor Heat Cap (pasadenanow.com) — Pasadena's Rental Housing Board has agreed to formally ask the City Council to consider an indoor heat cap for rentals, similar to LA County's new 82-degree standard that already covers nearby Altadena. The move doesn't change the law yet, but signals growing momentum for protections as extreme heat intensifies, and could lead Pasadena to adopt the county's rules instead of writing its own.

4. Join the Huntington-Fremont Corridor Project Meeting (southpasadenan.com) — South Pasadena is inviting residents to two late-August and early-September meetings on major safety and mobility upgrades along the Huntington Drive and Fremont Avenue corridors, just south of Pasadena. 5. Officials Investigating Mail Carrier in Peacock Assault (nytimes.com) — Officials are investigating a mail carrier after video appeared to show him striking a well-known neighborhood peacock in a Pasadena street.
