The facility would draw millions of gallons annually from the Indian Wells Valley basin and add diesel generators, prompting strong opposition from Ridgecrest and Inyokern residents but support from labor groups eyeing new jobs and tax revenue.

IWVGA: Phase 2 of adjudication will define basin safe yield, but sustainability work continues (ridgecrestca.com) — A new court phase is underway to decide how much groundwater can safely be pumped each year from the Indian Wells Valley basin that supplies Ridgecrest. The trial pits the Indian Wells Valley Water District’s higher safe-yield estimate against the groundwater authority’s lower sustainability figure, and the judge’s ruling will shape local water use and planning for years.
