Santa Rosa Police Seize Illegal Machine Gun Switches In Contra Costa County Raid

Police say a suspect tried to flee, tossed loaded weapon.

BAY AREA, CA — Police seized multiple illegal firearms and conversion devices during coordinated search warrants across the Bay Area, including equipment capable of turning handguns into fully automatic weapons.

Investigators from the Santa Rosa Police Department Special Enforcement Team served warrants around 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Concord and Vacaville as part of an ongoing probe into illegal weapons sales tied to Santa Rosa, according to Sgt. Matt White.

The investigation focused on so-called “Invisiglock” switch devices, which can convert Glock-style pistols into fully automatic firearms banned under California law, White said in a news statement.

Officers detained 19-year-old Vacaville resident Enzo Lafrades during the operation. Lafrades attempted to run and jumped into a nearby vehicle, where he discarded a loaded 9mm Glock 26 equipped with one of the illegal switch devices, White said.

A search of the vehicle uncovered four additional conversion devices hidden inside a first aid container and packaged for sale, White said.

At Lafrades’ residence, officers found another Glock outfitted with a switch device, additional parts used to assemble the modifications, and a traditional Glock switch, according to White. Officers also seized two fully automatic firearms — an Uzi and a Tech-9 — both classified as machine guns under California law, White said.

Authorities arrested Lafrades on suspicion of possessing multiple machine guns, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in public, and having a loaded firearm in a vehicle. He was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility, White said.
