City advances new Entertainment Zones in Sacramento where public drinking is allowed at events (kcra.com) — Sacramento's City Council is advancing a new set of Entertainment Zones where people could drink alcohol outdoors during special events in areas like downtown, midtown, Broadway and Oak Park. The proposal, headed for a Sept. 15 vote, aims to boost local bars, restaurants and nearby businesses by turning key corridors into more vibrant event destinations.

Sacramento's top stories today: New COVID vaccines, wildfire bill and more (sacbee.com) — Sacramento residents can look forward to the Our Street Night Market returning to the R Street Corridor on Saturday, Sept. 5, with more than 100 local food vendors. The city has also nearly finished a $20 million safety-focused redesign of Franklin Boulevard between Sutterville Road and 32nd Avenue, while new COVID-19 vaccines and a failed wildfire bill shape statewide health and policy news.

3. Driver suffers apparent medical emergency before fatal crash in south Sacramento (sacbee.com) — A man driving a silver Dodge Journey died Tuesday after an apparent medical emergency led to a crash on Florin Road near East Parkway in south Sacramento. His SUV rear-ended another vehicle, jumped the sidewalk and hit a chain-link fence before he was found unresponsive; a nearby CHP officer started CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital as investigators work to identify him publicly.

Sacramento Zoo plans first expansion in nearly 60 years (abc10.com) — Sacramento Zoo is set for its first major expansion since 1968, after the City Council approved adding about 5.6 acres in William Land Park. The project would boost the zoo's footprint by nearly 40%, with detailed plans and environmental review coming next, promising more space and future improvements while keeping the zoo in Land Park.

September 11, 2026 Meeting Materials - California Veterinary Medical Board (ca.gov) — A statewide veterinary medical board will hold its next public meeting in person at the Department of Consumer Affairs building on North Market Boulevard in Sacramento, with a webcast and WebEx access for those joining remotely.
