Authorities Capture Mountain Lion Seen Near Homes In Escondido

Police remained on scene managing crowd control after earlier monitoring the animal using ground observation and drone operations.

ESCONDIDO, CA — Authorities have captured a mountain lion spotted near homes in Escondido.

The animal was reported in the 700 block of North Grape Street, prompting a response from local police and state wildlife officials. The mountain lion was seen hiding under a vehicle near an apartment complex, according to multiple reports.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife sedated, secured and took the animal into custody around 7:08 p.m., according to an update from the Escondido Police Department.
