Fire Destroys Commercial Building In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA — A three-alarm fire destroyed a commercial building in San Diego's Serra Mesa neighborhood early Sunday, prompting a response from more than 100 firefighters.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after midnight to reports of flames on the roof of a two-story commercial building at 9160 Gramercy Road. When crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Firefighters initially entered the area but switched to a defensive attack from outside after determining the structure was unstable, officials said. Ladder trucks poured water onto the fire from the front and right side of the building as the blaze grew.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm at 12:12 a.m. and a third alarm at 12:39 a.m. After multiple collapses inside the building, crews temporarily paused operations before resuming firefighting efforts, officials said. The fire was knocked down shortly after 5 a.m.

Firefighters remained at the scene until about 11:22 a.m. to extinguish hot spots.

The scene continued to be monitored as a precaution.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
