1. $5M In Cocaine Found Hidden In Bus Gas Tank At San Ysidro Border (patch.com) — San Diego border officers intercepted about $5 million in cocaine hidden inside the gas tank of a commercial passenger bus at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. A Mexican national driving the bus was detained after inspection tools and a CBP canine detected anomalies, leading to seizure of over 262 pounds of drugs and cancellation of his visa.
   

2. Fast Food Restaurant Dumps Water On People, Blares Recording To Deter Loitering: Reports (patch.com) — Downtown San Diego residents are reacting after a Jack in the Box used outdoor sprinklers and a looping message telling people to "buy something or bounce" to discourage loitering, affecting both unhoused people and paying customers. After complaints and media coverage, the company disabled the system and recording and launched an internal investigation, saying it was concerned by what it observed.
   

3. San Diego Chef Wanted In Iowa Kidnapping Case Arrested After 14 Years On The Run (patch.com) — San Diego residents may recognize the Mission Beach chef who authorities say was secretly a long-sought Iowa kidnapping suspect living under an alias. U.S. Marshals arrested 50-year-old Brian Anthony Williams at a Mission Boulevard business, ending nearly 14 years on the run before he faces extradition to Iowa.
   

4. Police ID unarmed security guard fatally shot at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach (nbcsandiego.com) — An unarmed security guard working at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach was fatally shot early Monday, and San Diego police have now identified him as 31-year-old Luis Alberto Quiroz-Arreola. Detectives say there's no suspect description yet but don't believe there's an ongoing public threat. Anyone in San Diego with information is urged to contact the SDPD Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers.
   

5. Sexually violent predator escape fuels push by County Supervisors to stop placements (fox5sandiego.com) — San Diego County Supervisors are unanimously opposing any new placements of sexually violent predators after one recently escaped from supervised release in Rancho Bernardo. Residents from rural communities like Jacumba and Borrego Springs voiced fears about additional placements, while county leaders press state hospitals and their contractor for answers and stronger safeguards.
