San Diego Humane Society's Fur Ball Celebrates 40 Years

SAN DIEGO, CA — The San Diego Humane Society will mark four decades of its annual Fur Ball fundraiser next month with a dog-friendly evening benefiting animals across the county.

The 40th annual Fur Ball will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 3 at the San Diego Humane Society at 5500 Gaines St. Organizers said proceeds will support the nonprofit's services for more than 40,000 animals this year.

The event will include a cocktail reception for guests and their dogs, a vegetarian dinner prepared by chef Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille, live and silent auctions and an after-party featuring live music by Haute Chile.

"Fur Ball is a celebration of the extraordinary bond between people and animals, as well as the generosity that makes our work possible," San Diego Humane Society President and CEO Gary Weitzman said.

Weitzman said money raised at this year's event will help the organization care for animals as its shelters continue to face overcrowding.

The San Diego Humane Society has served the county since 1880 and operates campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego.
