19-Year-Old Shot, Pistol-Whipped Victim Amid Pride Weekend Celebrations In SF: DA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Prosecutors have filed charges against a 19-year-old man who police say pistol-whipped and shot a man in San Francisco Saturday as Pride celebrations happened nearby.

Jules Reeves was out of jail while awaiting other felony cases against him when he assaulted another person following an argument in a crowded public area at Leavenworth Street and McAllister Street, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

Reeves threatened to kill the victim, brought out a loaded gun and pointed it at him, prosecutors said.

The 19-year-old then pistol-whipped the victim before shooting him in the hand, causing an injury that required surgery, prosecutors said.

Reeves ran away following the shooting. Officers gave chase, but Reeves refused to stop, prosecutors said.

While chasing Reeves down, one officer fell and fractured their elbow, prosecutors said.

Officers eventually tracked Reeves down and took him into custody in connection with the shooting.

On Wednesday, prosecutors announced they charged Reeves with assault with a firearm, with an allegation that he personally used a firearm, and personally inflicted great bodily injury; carrying a loaded firearm that he was not the registered owner; carrying a concealed firearm that he was not the registered owner; resistance to a peace officer, causing serious injury and violating a court order, prosecutors said.

The shooting was one of several incidents that happened across San Francisco as Pride celebrations ensued. Prosecutors also highlighted a stabbing that left three people wounded.
