Elusive One-Eyed Dog Safe At Last After Weeks Of Evading Rescuers In SF
Anchovy Jack is now safe, but animal care officials say he needs a foster home "before moving on to his next chapter."

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A recently adopted dog recovering from major surgery is now safe after escaping his new home and going on a weeks-long wild adventure across San Francisco, authorities said.
Anchovy Jack was recently adopted from the East Bay, according to Animal Care & Control San Francisco.
Just days after eye surgery and getting neutered, Anchovy Jack escaped, authorities said.

For weeks, Anchovy Jack roamed the Sunset, the Richmond, Golden Gate Park, the Marina, and the Presidio areas, evading rescuers each time they got close, authorities said.
"Anchovy Jack can run fast, jump high, and was too frightened to slow down and let anyone get close to him," Animal Care & Control San Francisco said in a statement on Sunday. "Reports of Anchovy Jack sightings flooded into SFACC, and Animal Control Officers responded to the last reported sighting location time after time."

But nobody could catch him.
After several options, Animal Care & Control San Francisco turned to Susan Packer of K9Reunite, a lost pet recovery specialist.
Good samaritans hoping to help Anchovy Jack back safely compiled detailed sightings of the elusive canine for Packer, authorities said.
Packer, meanwhile, stayed in San Francisco "day and night" to respond quickly to any sightings of Anchovy Jack, authorities said.
After a few days, Packer caught Anchovy Jack using a humane trap, authorities said.
Anchovy Jack is now back with Animal Care & Control San Francisco, "eating, drinking and resting comfortably."
Anchovy Jack appears in good shape despite his wild adventure.
Anchovy Jack won't go back to adoption at this time, according to Animal Care & Control San Francisco.
The agency is seeking a foster home with a special rescue group that will let him " rest and relax before moving on to his next chapter," authorities said.
