The woman received 16 stitches on her neck as a result, prosecutors said.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man who randomly slashed a woman in the neck in San Francisco, leaving her needing 16 stitches, was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and several other crimes, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors say Roberto Lopez, 31, was walking just after 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of Funston Avenue when he suddenly slashed a woman's neck with a knife.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Lopez, meanwhile, was located four blocks away and taken into custody in connection with the attack, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

Jurors also found the allegations that Lopez personally caused great bodily injury and that he personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon during the commission of the battery true, they added.
"The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Lopez accountable for this unprovoked attack,” San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a statement Tuesday. "There is no place for senseless violence in our community like this and my office will continue to do everything we can to protect public safety and fight for justice in the courtroom. I hope this verdict brings the victim some measure of closure as they work to heal from this traumatic incident."
