San Francisco, Oakland Approve 45-Day Moratoriums On Data Centers

The two cities paused development for 45 days to study their effects and take community feedback into account.

The pushback against data centers continues to spread across the Bay Area and across the country, with San Francisco and Oakland joining others in pausing their development.

"I know we're talking about data centers. How about community centers? How about schools?" said Malik Seneferu of the Marie Harrison Community Foundation, who spoke at a meeting of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

Across the Bay in Oakland, Nichole Ghio joined a group of Oakland residents outside City Hall, rallying for a 45-day moratorium proposed by Councilmember Carroll Fife.
