The plan would build on high-quality farmland now used for ag teaching, with university leaders promising to replace most of the Class 1 soil and inviting community input before a decision expected by November.

Woman hit by car at San Luis Obispo gas station, Paso Robles man arrested (calcoastnews.com) — A 62-year-old woman was hit by a car at the Conserve Fuel station on Santa Rosa Street in San Luis Obispo, and police say the driver fled before being arrested on Highway 101. The Paso Robles man, 36-year-old Joseph Perez, is jailed without bail on felony hit-and-run and related charges, while the victim is recovering from moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.
   

3. San Luis Obispo County drafts 15-year master plan for parks and recreation management (ksby.com) — San Luis Obispo County is finalizing a 15-year master plan that will shape upgrades and possible ownership changes for parks like Cuesta Canyon and Bishop Peak within the city. The draft outlines $50–$80 million in needed improvements, suggests shifting some park land to city control, and is still open for public comment before supervisors consider approval early next year.
   

4. PG&E is set to pay San Luis Obispo County $16 million to offset the effects of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant (mustangnews.net) — San Luis Obispo County will receive $16 million from PG&E to partially replace lost Diablo Canyon property tax revenue, with payments in 2026 and 2027 supporting local schools and emergency services. Officials and advocates say the money may restore some cut programs in San Luis Coastal Unified and benefit Cal Poly-connected education efforts, but warn it’s only a temporary fix while long-term plant operations and funding remain unresolved.
   

5. Five California cities recognized for innovative programs and policies to address climate change (publicceo.com) — San Luis Obispo is being honored statewide for its work to expand home electrification options for low-income residents, particularly those living in manufactured homes. The city received a Beacon Leadership and Innovation Award alongside four other California cities for climate resilience and equity efforts, spotlighting SLO’s role as a leader in sustainable, community-focused energy programs.
