San Marcos leads North County in meeting housing goals (thecoastnews.com) — San Marcos is currently leading all North County cities in meeting state-mandated housing goals, especially for moderate and low-income units, with major projects rising around Cal State San Marcos and Kaiser. The city has already exceeded its targets for higher-income housing and is making notable progress on very low-income units, shaping what future neighborhoods and affordability will look like for local residents.

Legal Notices, April 17, 2026 (thecoastnews.com) — San Marcos is seeking contractor proposals to replace chiller and boiler systems at the San Marcos Safety Center and has scheduled an April 28 City Council hearing on its 2026–27 CDBG Action Plan and amendments to prior years’ plans. Man pleads not guilty to murder in pedestrian's San Marcos death (thecoastnews.com) — A San Marcos pedestrian was killed in February, and a 39-year-old man has now pleaded not guilty to murder and related DUI charges in connection with the crash. Prosecutors say the victim, a Vista resident, was struck while standing beside his parked car on North Pacific Street, and the driver allegedly fled on foot. The suspect remains jailed without bail following his arraignment.
   

4. Cal State San Marcos softball star leads the nation in batting average and eyes a national championship (10news.com) — A standout Cal State San Marcos shortstop is leading NCAA Division II in batting average and powering the Cougars toward a potential national championship, with home doubleheaders against Cal Poly Humboldt starting tomorrow. Jillian Albayati, praised as a quiet leader by teammates, switched from baseball to softball at Cal State San Marcos and plans to continue her career in the new Women’s Professional Baseball League.
