Crews have just finished stabilizing the vulnerable shoreline tracks with boulders and will keep inspecting them daily, but any tides above six feet may still force slowdowns.

Dangerous surf expected as rain related to Hurricane Marie pelts Southern California (dailynews.com) — Heavy surf and rain from distant Hurricane Marie are battering Southern California, and crews are already shoring up the San Clemente rail line with boulders to fight erosion from high tides. Expect powerful waves, dangerous rip currents, and a risk of minor coastal flooding along nearby beaches through Tuesday night, with officials urging inexperienced swimmers to stay out of the water.
   

3. Improvised trip to Virginia Beach brings Super Girl Pro title to Californian (pilotonline.com) — San Clemente surfer Eden Walla just turned a layover into a breakthrough, detouring from her trip home to capture the Super Girl Pro title in Virginia Beach. After an early exit in Portugal, she drove six hours, surfed five heats in tricky small waves, and left with her first World Surf League Qualifying Series win of the year.

Hurricane Lowell Causes Panic Buying in Hawaii, Monster Waves From Hurricane Marie Slam California, and Anak Krakatau Explodes (thelibertydaily.com) — Train service through San Clemente is suspended as monster swells from Hurricane Marie damage the coastal rail line, disrupting Metrolink Pacific Surfliner travel across parts of Orange County through Labor Day. The piece also details Hawaii's hurricane preparations, global volcanic eruptions, and a small asteroid impact, framing them as signs of growing natural instability worldwide.
