Plea Deal Sees East Bay Teacher Avoid Jail Time, Must Register As Sex Offender: Report

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A teacher at a San Leandro middle school has resigned after pleading no contest to annoying or molesting a minor, according to a report from the East Bay Times.
Manteca resident Laurentino Huerta-Garcia, 40, was originally charged with sexually abusing a student since she was 12, according to the report.
He avoided jail time by pleading no contest to the lesser misdemeanor charge, according to the report.

Although he avoided jail time, Huerta-Garcia will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years and serve at least one year of probation, according to the report.
The 40-year-old was also investigated in 2022, while working as a teacher in Fremont, after asking a student to wear a matching bra and underwear set and trying to take a picture of them, according to the report.
