With the county already using reserves and cities like San Mateo seeing growing shortfalls, local leaders are pressing Sacramento for a permanent fix to the vehicle license fee replacement formula.
3. 1 In 10 SMC Residents Can't Afford Basic Needs, Official Say (patch.com) — San Mateo County leaders say about one in ten county residents still can't afford basics like food and housing, and are launching a new Economic Mobility Framework and Action Plan to respond. Supervisors just approved the strategy, which will guide hiring, local purchasing, housing stability efforts, and support for higher-paying careers and small businesses across the county.

New coast side park is open to visitors daily (inmenlo.com) — San Mateo County has opened Don Horsley County Park at Tunitas Creek Beach, turning a once-private stretch of coastline into a daily-access public park. Just off Highway 1 between Half Moon Bay and Pescadero, the 58-acre site offers a sandy beach, overlooks, picnic spots, interpretive exhibits, and an ADA-accessible path to a mid-bluff viewpoint, though visitors should note there are no lifeguards.
5. California Highway Patrol reunites owner with Chevy Chevelle stolen 33 years ago (actionnewsnow.com) — A Chevy Chevelle reported stolen to the San Mateo Police Department 33 years ago has finally been returned to its original owner after a routine CHP VIN inspection in Newcastle raised red flags. Investigators say the current owner cooperated fully and isn't suspected in the theft, but they still don't know who altered the car's identification numbers or when.
