• Former GoPro Campus Redevelopment Approved, San Mateo (sfyimby.com) — San Mateo residents can expect over 200 new for-sale homes at the former GoPro campus on Clearview Way, between College of San Mateo and The Heights. The Planning Commission has approved 222 units, including 33 moderate-income homes, with townhomes, single-family houses, and substantial parking, though the car-oriented site sits about two miles from Hillsdale Caltrain and Hillsdale Shopping Center.
   

• Tesla records worst month ever for driver-assist crashes, with 4 fatal cases under Autopilot (thecooldown.com) — Federal data show Tesla reported a record number of driver‑assist crashes in July, including a fatal incident in San Mateo where a car hit a light pole and burned. While regulators say Autopilot being active doesn't prove it caused the wrecks, San Mateo drivers are reminded that responsibility still rests with humans even as scrutiny of Tesla's reporting practices intensifies.
   

• California scientist thought she found a rock until photos revealed a prehistoric discovery (latination.com) — A geomorphologist working on a San Mateo County creek for a frog habitat project unexpectedly uncovered the Bay Area's most complete Pacific mastodon molar. The fossil, at least 10,000 years old, is now at Stanford for dating, analysis, and 3D replication to support Midpeninsula Open Space's local education and conservation outreach.
