The group takes its name from the traditional Oru—a sacred sequence of rhythms performed in Afro-Cuban Santería ceremonies. Drawing inspiration from these foundational rhythmic traditions, the quartet creates a vibrant sound rooted in Cuban music while embracing the freedom, sophistication, and improvisational spirit of modern jazz.
Featuring piano, congas, drum set, and bass, The Oru Jazz Collective explores intricate rhythmic interplay, driving grooves, and spontaneous musical conversation.
