City of Santa Barbara to Loan School District $1M for Employee Housing at Former Parma School Site (independent.com) — Santa Barbara is moving toward a $1 million city loan to help the Santa Barbara Unified School District build 30 affordable housing units for teachers and staff at the former Parma School site on East Montecito Street. With City Council approval expected next week, the long-planned project would reserve units for low-income employees through 2116, aiming to keep educators living near local schools.
   

2. The Santa Barbara Harbor & Seafood Fest is a free and flavorful fall tradition (nbclosangeles.com) — Santa Barbara Harbor is gearing up for its free Harbor & Seafood Festival on Oct. 17, featuring boat tours, live music, and plenty of local, sustainably harvested seafood to buy. You can stroll Harbor Way, chat with local fishers, ride boats for free, and sample everything from chowder to fish tacos while soaking in the fall waterfront scene.
   

3. Potent Passing Attack Lifts Santa Barbara to 48-3 Win Over San Marcos in 66th Big Game (noozhawk.com) — Santa Barbara High's football team crushed crosstown rival San Marcos 48-3 in Friday's Big Game, extending the Dons' dominance in this long-running Santa Barbara rivalry. Junior quarterback Griffin Arnold threw seven touchdown passes, four to sophomore standout Keegan Roessler, as both teams now head into a bye week before league play begins.
   

4. An Adventure in Barbra-land Lands in Santa Barbara (independent.com) — Santa Barbara theater fans can catch Ensemble Theatre Company's season opener, the one-man comedy Buyer & Cellar, at the New Vic Theatre from October 7–25. Brian McDonald reprises his acclaimed role as Alex, guided by director Jamie Torcellini, in a fast, funny, and surprisingly touching look at celebrity, materialism, and the strange world of Barbra Streisand's imagined private mall.
   

5. Goleta train station project delayed (ksby.com) — Construction delays have pushed completion of Goleta's new $32 million train station, which will better connect riders to UC Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Airport, to the end of the year. When finished, the station next to La Patera Lane will add indoor waiting areas, restrooms, ticketing, a café, and bike storage, giving South Coast travelers a more comfortable and practical rail hub.
