• Registration is Now Open for Central Coast Schools to Attend Opera SB's Free Matinee of The Barber of Seville (independent.com) — Santa Barbara schools can now register their 7th–12th graders for Opera Santa Barbara's free 2027 student matinee of The Barber of Seville at the Lobero Theatre downtown. The February 22 performance includes a Q&A with the cast, covers all admission costs, and even offers limited busing help, but space is capped at about 550 seats and first‑come reservations close December 1, 2026.

• Cynder Sinclair: Friendship Center to Host Dementia Care Conference (noozhawk.com) — Santa Barbara's Friendship Center is marking its 50th anniversary with a full-day Dementia Care Conference at The Leta Hotel on Saturday, Sept. 26, followed by a free Family Reunion & Picnic at Chase Palm Park on Sept. 27. Local caregivers, health professionals, and families can hear nationally recognized dementia experts, earn nursing CE credits, and connect with others navigating dementia care in our community.

• SBCC Football Shows Youth in 61-7 Season-Opening Loss to El Camino CC (noozhawk.com) — Santa Barbara City College's football team dropped its home opener 61-7 to El Camino at La Playa Stadium, extending a two-year winless streak but showing flashes of promise from its young roster. Freshman standouts, including Bishop Diego grad quarterback Tua Rojas and running back Levi Cavalli, led a late 75-yard touchdown drive that coaches hope signals improvement ahead of next week's road game.
