• Santa Cruz County News Briefs: Fire, Roads and Public Safety (goodtimes.sc) — Santa Cruz County residents are alerted to continuing Highway 9 traffic delays through the San Lorenzo Valley and a predicted wet El Niño winter that could bring flooding. Briefs also note a Moss Landing battery facility fire now under control, a statewide ATM skimming arrest, scrutiny of a Capitola council candidate's LGBTQ+ comments, and the upcoming retirement of Santa Cruz's police chief.
   

• CP&DR News Briefs September 22, 2026: S.F. Waterfront; Santa Cruz Cnty. Data Centers; Huntington Beach; and More (cp-dr.com) — Santa Cruz County supervisors recently rejected a proposal that would have required voter approval before any AI data centers could be built in unincorporated parts of the county, opting instead to rely on existing review and environmental processes. For Santa Cruz residents, that means no immediate projects are planned, but any future data center plans would still face detailed scrutiny without going directly to the ballot.
