Detectives are working to trace the source of the drugs and determine any potential responsibility, while the county medical examiner has deferred the cause of death pending further tests. Authorities emphasize the probe is still preliminary and have not confirmed what substance was involved.
   

• Iconic Santa Monica Pier Sign Finally Coming Down For Restoration (patch.com) — Santa Monica's beloved neon "Santa Monica Yacht Harbor" sign over the Pier entrance is finally set to come down for restoration as part of the long-running Pier Bridge replacement project. City officials say removal timing is still uncertain, but the refurbished sign should return by late 2027, with a replica and historical display keeping photo ops and local history alive during construction.
   

• City of Monterey Park Statement on Federal Court Order in Vasquez Perdomo v. Mullin (ca.gov) — Santa Monica is part of a coalition of local governments that successfully pushed a federal court to require immigration agents in Southern California to document individualized flight-risk assessments before making warrantless civil immigration arrests. While the statement comes from Monterey Park, the order covers the Central District of California, meaning Santa Monica residents are included in the protected class and may feel reduced fear around everyday activities.
