📰 News we're reading
• Group sues to block development of 25 homes on Saratoga hillside (mercurynews.com) — A lawsuit led by investor Michael Burry is challenging Saratoga's approval of a 25-home hillside project, arguing the environmental review failed to fully address wildfire evacuation, habitat impacts and other risks. City files, the developer and fire consultants insist the builder's-remedy project is designed to fit the community and mitigate fire danger, while pro-housing advocates say blocking it harms workers who serve Saratoga but can't afford to live nearby.

• Saratoga residents satisfied with county sheriff's services, survey says (mercurynews.com) — Saratoga residents overwhelmingly report feeling safe and largely satisfied with current sheriff's services, even as the city weighs a pricier policing contract and a possible switch to Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police in 2027. At Saratoga Elementary, students now earn book rewards from a new PTA-funded vending machine that links kind, safe and responsible behavior with the joy of choosing their own books.

• Tesla driver crashes into emergency scene, seriously injuring Calif. firefighter (newsbreak.com) — A 30-year-old Saratoga man was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI after allegedly driving his Tesla through flares at a Ventura County freeway crash scene and seriously injuring a firefighter. The overnight chain of collisions on Highway 118 involved multiple suspected impaired drivers and has renewed scrutiny of Tesla crashes at emergency scenes, though investigators haven't said whether Autopilot was in use.
