• UC Santa Cruz student ID'd in fatal West Cliff Drive car crash (amedpost.com) — A fatal crash off West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz claimed the life of UC Santa Cruz student Alli Renee Singh, with Scotts Valley Fire sending a battalion chief to assist in the massive overnight rescue response. Crews from multiple agencies battled heavy surf to reach the submerged car, while the driver survived with minor injuries. The tragedy has shaken the campus and wider community. 
• Campbell's Trevor Gillis, San Francisco's Stephanie Blankley swim to 2026 Cruz Cruise wins (santacruzsentinel.com) — A Scotts Valley High alumna, Vanessa Fraser, teamed up with her dog Gigi to dominate the dog mile at The SF Mile in San Francisco, finishing more than 45 seconds ahead of the next team. Her win is part of a wider roundup of recent regional sports highlights, including open-water swims in Santa Cruz, a redwoods trail race, MMA bouts, and pro beach volleyball results.
