Council calls 2026 election (sunnews.org) — Seal Beach residents now have official dates for the 2026 City Council election, with Districts 1, 3, and 5 on the November 3 ballot and candidate filing opening July 13. The city will pay Orange County to place the race on the countywide ballot, and a runoff will be held if no candidate wins a majority. The city manager role remains appointed, not elected.

2. Filmmaking at LAUSD expands to all grade levels (sunnews.org) — Seal Beach’s Bay Theatre has become the buzzing home of a growing student film festival that now showcases work from kindergarten through high school across Los Alamitos Unified. Packed screenings on May 30 celebrated local filmmakers whose projects are winning county, state, and national recognition, including PSAs now playing in DMVs and on TV. Organizers hope the festival becomes a beloved Seal Beach tradition.

3. Spending recs for $3.7 million recovered from Andrew Do scheme to be up to his successor (laist.com) — Orange County supervisors plan to let Supervisor Janet Nguyen decide how to spend $3.7 million recovered from the Andrew Do corruption scheme, with strong pressure to keep it in the 1st District. A senior from Seal Beach’s Leisure World joined dozens of residents urging that the money support local seniors and vulnerable people who lost meal services and other aid.

4. New book features LW author (lwweekly.com) — A Leisure World resident, Elizabeth Anne Kennedy of Mutual 15, has a new story featured in the latest “Chicken Soup for the Soul” collection about dreams and premonitions. It’s her third piece in the series, and she’s donated a copy of the book to the Leisure World Library. Neighbors can now check it out and see a familiar name in print.
