Reseda Woman Pleads Guilty to Murder for County's First Fentanyl Murder Conviction (edhat.com) — A Reseda woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fentanyl-related death of a Simi Valley man, marking Ventura County’s first fentanyl murder conviction. Investigators from VC FOCUS and Simi Valley Police traced a lethal fentanyl-xylazine mix to her after a 2024 overdose in unincorporated Simi Valley. She faces 15 years to life at sentencing this September.
   

2. 34-Year Ventura County Veteran Reddy Pakala Appointed to MWD Board (latimes.com subscription) — Portions of Simi Valley will now be represented by longtime water leader Reddy Pakala on the powerful Metropolitan Water District board, influencing regional water reliability and planning. Pakala, a 47-year Ventura County resident and former county Water and Sanitation director, was appointed as Calleguas’ new representative and brings decades of experience managing local water and sewer systems.
   

3. Test showing infected mosquitoes underscores West Nile risks in county (vcstar.com) — Mosquitoes capable of carrying serious viruses have now been detected from Ojai all the way to Simi Valley, as Ventura County confirms West Nile-positive mosquitoes in Fillmore and rising activity countywide. Residents are urged to clear standing water, use EPA-approved repellents, and wear long sleeves, while also reporting mosquito problems or dead birds to county hotlines for testing and control.
   

4. Young Americans, Gen Z, Are Living With Their Parents at a Record Rate (businessinsider.com subscription) — A 30-year-old Simi Valley resident is among many Gen Z adults moving back in with parents to cope with high housing costs and stalled careers. The story explains how rising rents, scarce starter homes, and student debt are pushing millions of 25- to 34-year-olds nationwide to live with family longer, while experts say homeownership may simply be delayed, not lost.

Concordia's Cloutier Becomes First CSC Academic All-America Selection For Men's Lacrosse (cuigoldeneagles.com) — A Simi Valley native has made Concordia University Irvine men’s lacrosse history by becoming the program’s first CSC Academic All-America selection.
