Bankruptcy Threatens Gundlach Bundschu, CA's Oldest Family Winery: Report (patch.com) — Sonoma Valley's historic Gundlach Bundschu winery is entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and the Bundschu family expects to lose majority ownership while seeking a new investor. The winery, long tied to Sonoma's identity as California's oldest continuously family-owned winery, will stay open during court-supervised restructuring as it cuts costs, closes facilities, and works to keep a minority stake.

Federal Legislation Enables $60 Million in Local Water and Wastewater Projects (sonomasun.com) — Sonoma residents could see up to $60 million in new federal funding for local water, wastewater, and flood-resilience projects after the House passed the 2026 Water Resources Development Act. Sonoma Water and local sanitation districts, including those along the Russian River, would be eligible to pursue money for aging pipes, stormwater upgrades, and environmental restoration if the Senate also approves the measure.
   

3. Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley adds college guidance program (sonomanews.com) — Sonoma teens and families can now tap a free, multi-year college guidance program through Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, starting this fall. In partnership with Students Rising Above, the effort will offer workshops, one-on-one advising, and ongoing support from junior year through college enrollment, prioritizing students who need more intensive help navigating applications, aid, and career planning.

Fall colors come to Sonoma Botanical Garden's Asian woodlands (sonomanews.com) — Local residents can explore peak fall color just up the road at Sonoma Botanical Garden in Glen Ellen, where rare Asian maples turn brilliant shades from October through December. The garden is rolling out workshops, guided walks, forest bathing, lantern-lit evening strolls, and hands-on craft events, all designed to help visitors savor the changing season.
   

5. Sonoma Clean Power-Led Coalition Secures $20 Million in State Funding to Advance California's Geothermal Energy Future » California Community Choice Association (CalCCA) (cal-cca.org) — Sonoma Clean Power, which serves Sonoma and Mendocino counties, has helped secure $20 million in new state funding to drill exploratory geothermal wells that could expand local clean energy. The money, matched by private investment, will support SCP's GeoZone initiative to develop up to 600 megawatts of next-generation geothermal power, promising more reliable carbon-free electricity and skilled jobs for the region.
