2 Brush Fires In RivCo Break Out Amid Heat Advisory Wednesday

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Two small brush fires ignited near Temecula and Moreno Valley Wednesday, just a half hour apart. There is no known connection between the blazes that were both quickly extinguished by Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters.

At 12:45 p.m., firefighters from both San Diego and Riverside County responded to the area of Rainbow, just east of the I-15 freeway. That one-acre blaze ignited in light fuel and burned uphill before forward progress was halted. No structures were threatened in that incident, according to reports from the scene.

A second brush fire erupted on a hillside just east of Moreno Valley and also charred nearly an acre before it was stopped.

Just after noon, the blaze began in the Badlands, the area of Jerry Lane and Gilman Springs Road, less than a mile south of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews arrived at the location within a few minutes and encountered flames moving slowly through medium vegetation, burning down slope into a drainage canal.

Firefighters quickly established hose lays, halting the brush fire's forward rate of spread at 12:30 p.m., according to reports from the scene. Full containment was expected by 1:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
