Dr. Roger W. Schultz Honored With Emeritus Title For 25 Years Of Service To MSJC

TEMECULA, CA — The Mt. San Jacinto Community College District Board of Trustees has named former long-time leader Dr. Roger W. Schultz Superintendent/President Emeritus following his retirement after 25 years with the district.

The board approved the emeritus designation at its Aug. 13 meeting to recognize Schultz's quarter-century of service, including 18 years as superintendent and president prior to stepping down in June 2026.

"Dr. Schultz's leadership has left a lasting mark on Mt. San Jacinto College and the communities we serve," said Tom Ashley, president of the MSJC Board of Trustees. "The title of Superintendent/President Emeritus recognizes not only his years of dedicated service, but the impact of his leadership and his enduring commitment to our students and this institution."

The title coincides with the conclusion of the Dr. Roger W. Schultz Legacy Fund campaign. Organized by the MSJC Foundation, the initiative surpassed its initial $100,000 goal, raising more than $120,000 from community partners, local businesses, college employees, and individual donors.

Key contributions included $25,000 from the City of Temecula and $10,000 from Southwest Healthcare, representing Temecula Valley Hospital, Inland Valley Hospital, and Rancho Springs Hospital.

Seventy-five percent of the raised funds will go toward establishing an endowed fund for the future University Center at MSJC's Temecula Valley campus, aimed at expanding higher education access in Southwest Riverside County. The remaining 25% will directly support student success initiatives across the district.

During his tenure, Schultz led MSJC through extensive districtwide development, including securing and opening the Temecula Valley campus, advancing projects at the San Jacinto and Menifee Valley campuses, and laying the groundwork for the future University Center.

"Dr. Schultz's leadership helped shape the MSJC we know today, and the impact of that work will continue well into the future," said Dr. Tawny Dotson, current superintendent and president of Mt. San Jacinto College. "The Emeritus designation is a meaningful way to recognize his service to the College while honoring the foundation he helped build for MSJC's next chapter."

Schultz expressed gratitude for the recognition and the campaign's impact on future students.

"I am deeply honored by this recognition and grateful for the opportunity I had to serve MSJC and our communities for 25 years," Schultz said. "What means the most to me is knowing that the work continues and that the generosity shown through the Legacy Fund will create opportunities for students for years to come."
